Am Echad Hand Embellished Giclee

“Am Echad” was born in the weeks after October 7, during a time when the entire Jewish world was reeling — heartbroken, shaken, and searching for strength. Like so many others, I felt overwhelmed by the grief and fear of those first days, and then slowly lifted by the miracles, the stories of bravery, the words of chizzuk, and the incredible unity that began to emerge. Klal Yisrael became Am Echad Lev Echad in a way I had never witnessed before.

One clip in particular moved me deeply: a soldier embracing a chareidi man who had been serving food to troops. Their hug held everything — pain, love, gratitude, brotherhood. It was raw and genuine, a moment that seemed to capture exactly what Hashem wants from us, especially now: to remember that beneath all our differences, we are one family.

I painted Am Echad to give visual form to that moment. The textured 24k gold leaf symbolizes the holiness of our unity, while the dripping brushstrokes echo the tears, the heartbreak, and also the strength that flowed through the Jewish people at that time. Many viewers have since told me they see a heart shape in the embrace — a reminder that this was the hug felt across the world, touching Jews in every community, every background, every “uniform.”

When the painting went viral, the outpouring of messages from around the globe was overwhelming. People wrote to say it made them cry, that it made them feel connected again, that it reminded them of our shared soul. The original painting sold on the first day, and 100% of that sale went to tzedakah for families displaced by the war. Today, 50% of all print proceeds continue to support Shai Graucher’s organization and its critical relief efforts.

Am Echad is more than an image; it is a promise — that we are brothers, that we are one, and that our unity has the power to bring comfort, strength, and, b’ezras Hashem, redemption.
